TRAVEL
AIRPORTS
The south of France is a big region so it is served by a few different airports, such as:
- Nice - for international flights
- Marseille - closer to Château de Tourreau
- Montpellier - more for the internals and shorts flights
- Toulon - European flights
TRANSPORTATION
Our top recommendation for the South of France is to rent a car so you can enjoy driving through the beautiful countryside and have the maximum flexibility of getting around, as public transport in the countryside is a little more limited - sometimes even non-existent - than in the main towns.
Using a car rental comparison site to find the best prices is useful.
If you would prefer to book an airport transfer then you can ask our planner, Marie, for recommendations and booking.
If you would like to book a taxi for your transportation in Sarrians or Avignon we highly recommend you book it in advance. Here is a website for one of the taxi companies in the area - they can speak English.
COVID-19 TRAVEL INFO
It is important to us to provide as safe and comfortable an atmosphere as possible. Accordingly, we request that all attending guests be fully vaccinated, including boosters, if eligible. Please be sure to check your airline's individual policies for Covid-19 before flying.

THINGS TO DO
The south of France is full of incredible places to discover. There is something for everyone, depending on whether you prefer physical activities such as hiking or relaxing on the beach, or discovering the beautiful provincial villages. The Château is located in a popular french area where you have a few places to discover:
AVIGNON
- Le Palais des Papes: it is one of the largest and most important medieval Gothic buildings in Europe. It is a Unesco World heritage site. You can discover the impressive Court of Honor.
- Le pont d'Avignon: In France we have a song dedicated to this monument - "sur le pont d'Avignon on y danse, on y danse". The song is known to all, young and aged people. - if you go to see it, you must dance on the bridge! A young sheepman named Bénezet came down from the mountains and claimed to have been sent by God to build a bridge. Laughed at by the locals, the prelate challenged him to carry a huge stone on his back and throw it into the Rhone River to start the construction himself. No one thought he would succeed in this challenge, but with the help of a divine intervention, he managed to lift the stone and throw it.
- La cathédrale Notre-Dame des Doms: Standing on the rock of the Doms, it is the oldest monument of the square of Palais des Papes.
- Les Jardins des Doms: to enjoy the calm of the Provence while being in the city and having a wonderful view of the river, the countryside, a castle, a mountain and the city.
- La rue de la République: if you are looking to do some shopping in Avignon.
ORANGE
Théâtre antique: Orange is a historic Roman city. It has the best preserved Roman monument in the Occident - the theatre. It is a Unesco World heritage site.
L'ISLE-SUR-LA-SORGUE
It is the most famous village in France for antique collectors and second-hand buyers.
WINE TOURS
in Sarrians
in Châteauneuf du Pape
SIGHTSEEING IN PROVENCE
Les Gorges du Verdon
We highly recommend visiting the Gorges du Verdon if you are visiting the Provence region. This is a canyon known for its brilliant turquoise color that comes from glacial runoff. It's perfect for a day trip, the best is to book a boat or even a pedal boat depending on your preferences. It's the best way to visit these beautiful spots and you can even swim. If you are interested in booking a boat or a pedal boat we highly recommend you to book it in advance as everybody will want to go for a day boat during summer time. Les Gorges du Verdon are the place to be in summer time.
Colorado Provencal
This is a little French national park that really looks like the American Colorado (in a much smaller size).
Moustier Sainte-Marie
One of the most beautiful towns in France - a typical and historical Provencal town.
Gordes
One of the most famous hilltop towns in the region. There’s a beautiful lookout of the town itself from the road as you drive in. It has a number of restaurants and winding streets, great for exploring and for views of the valley below. The only downside is that it tends to get crowded midday. We would suggest going early or late in the day if you want to maximize your time here. We can recommend you to stop for a drink or a meal at the Hotel Bastides de Gordes. This place is so peaceful and beautiful. You can enjoy a beautiful view.
Imbut trail
This trial is such an amazing hiking with amazing views! You must not be afraid of heights and you must be prepared to walk for hours. For the record. You'll go through some parts where you'll be between the rock and the gap with a view of the canyon and others where you'll have to climb very high. There are some really beautiful spots where you can enjoy the canyon - but pay attention to check for water inflows. The canyon is controlled by barrages.
CITIES
Nice
One of the larger cities in France, Nice is located on the French Riviera. If you go to Nice you must go for a walk on the popular Promenade des Anglais. You must visit the old Nice and go to the Marché du Cours Saleya. It is one of the most famous street markets in France. You will find local products and the atmosphere is very friendly. Nice is close to smaller, picturesque towns like Menton and Villefrance-Sur-Mer.
Cannes
Made famous by the international film festival, Cannes is known for high-end shopping, architecture, and it’s beautiful location on the French Riviera. This long seaside promenade is surrounded by pines and palm trees, luxury boutiques and legendary hotels. It is one of the most famous boulevards of the French Riviera and the world.
Saint-Tropez
The pretty peninsula is renowned for exclusive beach clubs, megabucks yachts and exquisite restaurants as well as olive groves, a cobblestoned old town and rugged coastal hikes. If you are planing to go to Saint-Tropez you should definitely go to one of the most famous costal towns : Port Grimaud. A colorful port, nicknamed ‘The Little Venice of Provence’ or the "French Venice".
USEFUL INFORMATIONS
RESTAURANTS
We recommend the app "The Fork" to help you to find local restaurants. Another suggestion is to use Google maps.
HAIRDRESSERS
If you are looking for a hairdresser in the area we recommend you use the website Planity. The website will sort all the hairdressers in the area. You will need to put the keyword: "Coiffeur" and the location - e.g Sarrians or Avignon. Then you will need to choose the hairdresser and the service like shampoo, brushing, haircut and you will be able to directly book an appointment on the website.
